Crow Wing Food Co-op (CWFC) is a cooperatively owned grocery store dedicated to sustaining a healthy and thriving community.
CWFC was founded in 1979 to create everyday local access to healthy foods (back when things like whole wheat flour were hard to find). They banded together, drafted by-laws and articles of incorporation, sold membership shares, and eventually opened a small storefront. Crow Wing Food Co-op was born.
Today, Crow Wing Food Co-op remains dedicated to the mission of sustaining a healthy and thriving community by providing everyday access to local, allergen-friendly, organic, fair trade, and sustainably produced foods that our member-owners and community depend on.
This year, Crow Wing Food Co-op will expand and relocate into Downtown Brainerd (624 Laurel Street) with a new storefront expected to open in September 2020. CWFC will have four times as much retail space, a fresh new look, and a deli with healthy grab and go breakfast, lunch, and dinner options. CWFC will join the thriving Destination Downtown Brainerd Business Coalition to help reinvigorate Downtown Brainerd and bring more healthy, locally grown food to our community and those who visit Lake Country.
Crow Wing Food Co-op aims to model sustainable practices to help our member-owners and community be responsible citizens who care for each other, our community, our planet, our farmers, and the natural world around us.
2020 Expansion and Relocation
In 2019, Crow Wing Food Co-op participated in and won the Destination Downtown Business Challenge hosted by the Brainerd Lakes Chamber of Commerce. This contest was ultimately decided by the community through a public voting period. Thanks to you and broad community support, Crow Wing Food Co-op is working now to expand and relocate into a 4,000 square feet storefront on the corner of 7th Street and Laurel Street in Downtown Brainerd, where we can expand inventory and open a deli to bring healthy, grab and go foods to the community.
